The department of Engineering and Technology at Parkland High School sponsored an Engineering Symposium, May 8.
This was an opportunity for students who are engaged in engineering, computers, aeronautics and a host of engineering interest to showcase their talents to fellow students, educators and the public.
One of the highlights of the program was of course the VEX program.
The program is a competition where home-built robots attempt to pick up a ball and move it to a specific part in the field.
However, competing robots in turn can attack and try to prevent a robot that looks to be about to score from that score.
All in all, it was a fascinating display of the talents of the engineering students and a quick glimpse into the world of electronics and engineering.

Parkland Engineering students Dwayne Marsh, Luke McEvoy and Leo Lu, created CO2 driven cars for the Engineering Symposium.
Parkland High School Engineering students, Panarvi Channamsetti and Robert Carmen created and infrared chronograph that records the speed of objects such as tennis and basketballs as they pass through the sensors for the Engineering Symposium.
Andrew Zellner and Erica Lenner developed “The future of backpacks” for the Engineering Symposium held May 8 at Parkland High School. The backpack alerts wearers to poor posture during long treks.
Melody Shen and Vishnu Nava created a software program that helps businesses optimize everything from voting to creating a deli counter during the Engineering Symposium.
Alex Lucadamo, Jason Barrett and Juce Benfield display an aircraft they built at the Engineering Symposium.
