Adult summer basketball heats up

Catasauqua’s summer basketball leagues are ready to enter their final phase of their seasons.

In the Catasauqua Summer League, LV Jays sit atop the league with an overall 4-1 mark beginning play this week. Rebels’ Farm and Daku’s were tied for second with 3-1 marks.

Among the other teams are Reichenbach Oil which was 2-2, and The Tribe and Zone 6 were at 1-2. Perennial power Catty Corner has been struggling at 1-3, and AAO was winless at 0-3.

League director Eric Snyder has liked what he has seen, and he is looking forward to a good finish.

“We have had some pretty good games,” said Snyder. “It is a shorter season this year, so things will get tight.”

The Catty League will have games Tuesday and Thursday for the next two weeks before the league quarterfinals begin June 30. Semifinals will be July 7, and the league final will be July 9.

In the North Catasauqua League, Pammer Chiropractic is on the top with a 4-0 record. They are followed by B’Town Blazers (4-1), Curmaci Dental (5-2), Team Escobar (3-2), Expert Auto Timing (3-2), Jay Gilbert and Family (4-3), Be On Us (2-3), AAO (2-4), Palermo Italian Grill (1-6), and GR Electric (0-7).

Former Whitehall standouts Zach Gilbert of Escobar leads the league in scoring with 19.5 points per game and Luke Keppel of Jay Gilbert and Family is averaging 19.1. Arnel Lewis of B’Town is at 18.2, Pasqual Medaro of Expert Auto Timing is at 16.2, and Josh Washington of Palermo’s Italian Grill at 15.0.

Current Catasauqua standouts Zav Vaz is averaging 13.0 points and teammate Aalani Nix is at 12.8, both for GR Electric. Former standout and current Saucon Valley head football coach Anthony Brinkley is averaging 10.7 points, and former Northampton standout and current Catty assistant coach Brett Zieber is averaging 8.8 points per game, both for Curmaci Dental.

The league will also play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but their final regular-season games will be played on June 30.
