Lehigh Connie Mack outlasts S. Parkland

Lehigh-Bethlehem’s Connie Mack baseball team hung on for a 14-12 victory over South Parkland on June 12 at Lehigh-Bethlehem.

“Once we got to 8-8, our guys never gave up, and we had confidence,” said Lehigh-Bethlehem manager Ryan Beck. “We’re a good hitting team, so we just have to stay confident and not be too aggressive at the plate.”

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Andrew Erfle led off with a double to left field, and Xavier Ryan’s double, also to left, scored Erfle.

Braden Beck walked, Ezerett Frack’s 2 RBI single to right center kept Lehigh-Bethlehem ahead, and Wyatt Hendrickson knocked in Frack.

Beck’s 2 RBI line drive to center field in the fifth inning scored Lehigh-Bethlehem’s final runs.

South Parkland threatened in the top of the sixth inning, but Lehigh-Bethlehem catcher Lucas Paulino made a nice throw to third baseman Will Cresci, who put a tag on the South Parkland runner.

Cresci then made a tough throw to David Dunham at first base for the second out.

“I would say the strength of this team is their chemistry,” said Coach Beck. “They’ve been playing together for a long time, and no lead is ever...We have full confidence in any situation, and they continue to score runs and play good defense.”

Ryan closed down the game with a one-two-three inning in relief of Beck.

Ryan also had two doubles and two big catches in center field.

“I ran, not expecting to get it,” said Ryan, regarding the second catch. “I thought I was gonna drop it, but I dove for it and caught it. I had a good grip on it, surprisingly.”

Dunham scored Lehigh-Bethlehem’s first run on a passed ball and followed up with a 2 RBI triple to make the score, 5-1.

“I was super early on the first pitch and fouled it off,” said Dunham. “I moved up in the box and put a good swing on it.”

Cole Collins was the starting pitcher for Lehigh-Bethlehem and gave up one run.

Xaviel Minaya had two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Lehigh-Bethlehem’s next game is scheduled for June 19 against Franklin Township at Lehigh-Bethlehem.
