The Valley Preferred Cycling Center launched its 50th season May 29 with its signature program, “Friday Nights Under the Lights,” in Trexlertown.
The velodrome, which officially opened Oct. 12, 1975, marked the milestone with a program highlighting its history, community support and role in developing athletes.
Andrew Rodale Norelli, chairman of the board and grandson of founder Robert Rodale, reflected on the venue’s legacy and its impact on generations of young cyclists. Pennsylvania State Rep. Mike Schlossburg, D-132nd, and U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-7th, praised the cycling center’s contributions to the region and presented certificates recognizing the anniversary. Additional remarks were offered by Julien Godbarge, vice chairman of the Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors, and Pennsylvania State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16th. Dan Bair, vice president of Clinically Integrated Networks at Jefferson Health and acting executive director of Valley Preferred, also addressed attendees. The evening concluded with a Pro/Am Women’s race, officially kicking off the anniversary season. The Trexlertown track, known as “T-Town,” has hosted numerous national champions and Olympians and remains a cornerstone of competitive cycling and community activity in the region. Festivities ended with the Mike Budjnoski Fireworks Spectacular.
