Upper Milford Township prepares for new fire truck

A new Western District fire truck — and how to pay for it — took center stage at the June 4 Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting, as officials weighed financing options and long-term budgeting concerns.

During the emergency services committee report, supervisors discussed funding the truck through a proposed 2% loan, while expressing concern about the overall cost and identifying the best approach for repayment.

Supervisor John Zgura said the board wants to consolidate fire department finances into a single account.

Fire department representatives said they plan to travel to Minnesota at the end of July to finalize details, with delivery of the new truck expected about two weeks later in August.

Officials suggested creating a spreadsheet to compare financing options and determine the most practical path forward.

Supervisors also discussed the Volunteer Firefighter Gift Card Incentive Program, with Solicitor Marc Fisher noting that the related resolution requires clarification.

Later in the meeting, supervisors approved the removal of Truck 17, a 1999 GMC vehicle, from service. Township Manager Bud Carter said the aging truck requires extensive repairs, and crews are prepared to operate without it for now. No replacement vehicle is planned at this time. In new business, the board approved: Resolution 2026-028, establishing the Red Hill Water Authority Intergovernmental Agreement for water gardening activity that has been ongoing for years. Resolution 2026-029, providing annual workers’ compensation coverage for firefighters. Supervisors also approved a planning commission request to withdraw the Goldstein subdivision application for 3001 N. Second St., with Planning Coordinator Brian Miller reading the application letter.
