From reflection to celebration: Emmaus Class of 2026 graduates

The Emmaus High School Class of 2026 celebrated graduation June 7 at the PPL Center in Allentown, marking the culmination of their high school careers with music, reflection and recognition. Graduates entered the arena to “Pomp and Circumstance,” performed by the Emmaus High School orchestra under the direction of Connie Arnold.

The ceremony opened with the Emmaus High School chorale, directed by Julie Zimmer, performing the alma mater, composed by Rachel Hauser and Robert Iobst, both members of the Class of 1932.

Principal Beth Guarriello welcomed graduates, families and guests, and recognized members of the Class of 1976 in attendance. She also acknowledged school board directors, Superintendent Kristen Campbell and the assistant superintendent.

In her remarks, Guarriello emphasized the importance of character and purpose.

“Grand gestures are not necessary, but courage, compassion and purpose are important,” she said. “When you show up, you create a light for others.” She commended students for their contributions to the school community.

Class President Sydney Schaadt, who will attend Georgetown University to study government, delivered remarks reflecting on her high school experience. Schaadt, who has served as class president for four years, spoke candidly about challenges, growth and self-reflection, recalling her arrival in the district in sixth grade and the uncertainty she initially felt.

She encouraged classmates to consider both successes and setbacks. “What did you do right that you want to repeat? What did you do wrong that you want to change?” she said, noting that shared experiences become lasting memories.

She also thanked her family for their support.

Assistant Principal Wendi Myers introduced the Herman Coradetti Award and Hall of Fame honoree, Aarav Ganshani.

Recognized for his 4.63 GPA, leadership and service, Ganshani revived the debate team following the pandemic and helped secure $40,000 in special education funding. He also served as a U.S. Senate page. His portrait will be displayed in the school library.

Students entering military service were recognized, with the orchestra performing selections representing each branch.

Honor graduates, defined as those maintaining a 3.8 GPA or higher, were also acknowledged, along with award recipients.

Ganshani, who will attend Harvard University to study economics and serves as president of the National Honor Society, addressed the class. Reflecting on his journey from Uganda to the United States, he spoke about gratitude, personal growth and the importance of perspective. “There is no such thing as a life better than yours,” he said.

Class Secretary Olive Whitney introduced Logan Roth, the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute representative, who spoke about his experiences in career and technical education.

Roth will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology and thanked his family, teachers and coaches for their support.

Vice President Reid Siminski introduced Mackenzie Eve Campbell, who reflected on overcoming challenges, including a skiing accident, and expressed gratitude to her twin sister, family and teachers. “It’s a great day to be a Hornet!” she said.

Shonta E. Ford, president of the East Penn School District Board of Directors, formally presented the Class of 2026 for graduation.

The ceremony concluded with the graduates exiting the arena to “Rondeau,” performed by the Emmaus High School Orchestra.
