Velodrome celebrates 50th anniversary
The Valley Preferred Cycling Center celebrated its 50th season with a program titled, “Friday Nights Under the Lights” on May 29.
It officially opened on Oct. 12, 1975, in Trexlertown.
Andrew Rodale Norelli, chairman of the board and grandson of visionary creator and founder Robert Rodale, highlighted the center’s history, community support, and impact, noting its role in developing young athletes.
State Rep. Mike Schlossburg, D-132nd, and Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the 7th Congressional District, praised the center’s contributions to the community and presented certificates.
Later in the program Julien Godbarge, vice-chair of Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors and State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16th, spoke.
Also, Dan Bair, vice president of Clinically Integrated Networks, Jefferson Health, acting executive director for Valley Preferred spoke.
The event concluded with the Pro/Am Woman’s Race, marking the start of the 50th anniversary season.
The center location identified as T-Town (Trexlertown), has hosted numerous national champions and Olympians, emphasizing its role in fostering athletic excellence and community spirit.
The program ended with a Mike Budjnoski Fireworks Spectacular.
