Local history is highlighted in several upcoming events

Two historical societies in Upper Milford offer compelling learning opportunities this month.
On June 25 the Upper Milford Historical Society will welcome Lane Schultz with the program “Rock, Ice, Dirt” at the meeting 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. Schultz will talk about the geology of Lehigh County. All are welcome.
On June 30 Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will host speaker Scott Houting and the presentation titled “General Washington’s Command Staff in Montgomery County — 1777” 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building.
According to organizers, the program will focus on Washington’s aide-de-camp staff, including enslaved people as well as civilians who traveled with Washington. All are welcome to attend.
History is also on the agenda in Lower Milford Township.
On June 22 Lehigh University Prof. Scott Gordon will talk about his research on 18th century Moravian women in a program at Southern Lehigh Library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.
Admission is free.
On June 24 character actor Alisa Dupuy will embody Betsy Ross in an event hosted by the Friends of Southern Lehigh Public Library, also at the library. The program starts 7 p.m. and there is cost. Registration for the event can be done at the circulation desk or by phone at 610-282-8825.
The program will look at contributions by Ross to the movement for independence from English rule.
The 80th annual Dillingersville Pilgrimage is scheduled June 28.
The stone schoolhouse, which is listed nationally as a historic must-see, is located at 7226 School House Lane in Zionsville.
The combined Lutheran, Mennonite and UCC congregations will gather for a service 10:30 a.m. and followed by a picnic. Homemade baked goods will be available. The music group Simple Gifts will perform 12:30 p.m. Other pilgrimage highlights include tours of the schoolhouse.
Old Zionsville United Church of Christ will offer sessions focused on grief beginning June 3.
Attendees will meet in the lower social hall, which is air-conditioned, of Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville.
This program is free and sessions run Wednesdays through July 29. Sessions meet 6-8 p.m.
A program booklet is available for a fee.
Each session includes a video, which does the teaching portion of the program, some discussion and some take-home reflective reading, exercises and helpful hints to guide participants through their grief.

The Macungie Ambulance Corps and American Heart Association will host the Healing Hands CPR training event June 6 in Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar St., Macungie.
