Emmaus Chorale to perform June 7 at Faith Presbyterian Church, Emmaus.

Appropriately titled “Shalom,” this year’s Emmaus Chorale spring concert focuses on the theme of “peace.”

Performing in the sanctuary of Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. Emmaus, 3 p.m. June 7, the chorale will present pieces in a variety of musical genres both sacred and secular.

No admission is charged and no ticket required. Those wishing to do so may present a goodwill donation.

As stated in this year’s concert program, “In September 1983, F. Allen Artz III [founded] the Emmaus Chorale so that musically inclined adults in the East Penn area … have an opportunity to sing in a mixed choir.”

Since that time the choir has performed two free concerts annually.

Donald Ryan, whose impressive credentials include graduation from Westminster Choir College, a master’s degree in music education from Florida State University and membership in Barnstormers, the New England Men’s Ensemble, currently conducts the Chorale.

Cindy Kerr serves as the group’s accompanist. Kerr attended Augustana College from which she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance. Since 1993 she has served as an organist in churches throughout the Lehigh Valley.

The group’s vocal talent pool runs deep. More than 35 singers, three of whom are original members, currently perform with the Chorale. As well as fulfilling its original goal, the Chorale also makes professional quality vocal music freely and locally accessible.
