We are approaching that time of year when the residents of Catasauqua and North Catasauqua, along with their friends and family, come together to celebrate patriotism and take part in the joyful celebration of the Fourth of July.

The J4 Committee, made up of volunteers from both boroughs, is working hard to plan this year’s event, which will be held July 4 at the Catasauqua park, with a rain date of July 5.

The celebration will begin with the reading of the Declaration of Independence noon at the George Taylor House, followed by the opening ceremony 1 p.m. at the park band shell.

Following the opening ceremony, attendees can enjoy food trucks, music, craft tables, flea market vendors, a dunk tank, a cornhole tournament and children’s games hosted by the YMCA. This year’s event will also feature a mega Catasauqua High School class reunion, bringing together graduates from every class for a special community gathering. We also look forward to welcoming past and present teachers and staff.

The evening will conclude with Flirtin’ with the Mob 7-9 p.m. and a fireworks display approximately 9 p.m. at Alumni Field in Catasauqua Area School District’s football stadium.

The J4 Celebration has been a tradition since 1980 and is held whenever the holiday falls on a weekend. We look forward to another wonderful community event this year!

The summer programs for both Catasauqua and North Catasauqua youth will kick off June 15. Lunches are prepared at Holy Trinity and served at the two playgrounds Mondays to Fridays.

Volunteers are needed twice a week for food prep and daily to hand out the lunches. Child abuse and state criminal clearances are needed by our volunteers at the playgrounds.

The church also needs help replenishing the food supplies. Individually packed salty snacks, such as Doritos, Takis, potato chips and cheese curls, can be dropped off during regular church office hours or Sunday mornings. You can also make a donation designated for summer lunches, and volunteers will take care of the shopping.

Call the church office at 610-264-2641 for questions or more information.
