Liberty’s run of four straight District 11 championship appearances has to come an end, as the Hurricanes fell to Stroudsburg 6-4 in last week’s district quarterfinals.
It was the biggest upset of the tournament so far, as the seventh seeded Mounties were able to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning to hold off the second seeded ‘Canes.
Ryan Pacitti scored the winning run on a passed ball and Collin O’Connor tacked on an extra insurance run with a sacrifice fly to give Stroudsburg (10-10) a major program victory.
Christian Hackett led the way for Liberty with two hits and two RBIs, as the Hurricanes season comes to an end at 14-8 overall.
The opportunity for a Liberty-Freedom semifinal never materialized, as the Pates fell to Nazareth 12-4 in the D11 quarters.
Chase Biedermann, Ryan Lichtenberger and Ryan Jezorwski each had two RBI for the Blue Eagles in the win.
Colin Andrews led the way for Freedom with two RBI.
Freedom ends the year at 10-11 overall.
