Stone, Brown reach doubles semi

Two Hornet doubles tennis teams competed in the District 11 Championships last week.

Chris Stone and Caleb Brown were seeded third for districts and won a pair of matches before falling in semifinals.

Stone and Brown beat Parkland’s Noah Elijovich and Pranav Senthilkumar 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

The Hornet pair won a long quarterfinal match against Liberty’s Thomas Horvath and Finn Brown, 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 6-3.

In the semifinal round, the Emmaus team played another three-set match and fell to Nazareth’s Vansh Singhal and Lorinc Von Platen 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Parkland’s Manav Patel and Jacky Zhang beat Singhal and Von Platen in the title match, 6-3, 6-3.

The Hornets’ Cole Stuchko and Sai Uppiretia also qualified for districts. The unseeded pair met top-seeded Patel and Zhang in the first round and fell 6-0, 6-0.

Emmaus (17-2) qualified for the District 11 team tournament as the No. 3 seed and won its quarterfinal match Monday, 3-0 over Stroudsburg.

Stone won the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2 against Stroudsburg. Stuchko took the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Ben Brooks and Adam Waddell won the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-2.

The Hornets were slated to face No. 2 seed Liberty on Tuesday with finals scheduled for Thursday at Lehigh University.

Liberty beat Emmaus during the regular season, 6-1 on March 27.
