PHS softball wins D-11 game

After nearly two weeks off n following its regular season finale, the Parkland High School softball team was back in action in the District 11 tournament this week.

The Trojans began their district run by winning their first-round game.

Ninth-seeded Parkland defeated eighth-seeded East Stroudsburg South, 11-8, Monday.

The Trojans improved to 9-11 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals to take on the top seed and Eastern Pennsylvania Conference champion, Freedom, on Thursday afternoon.

Parkland went ahead 1-0 in the first inning Monday.

The Cavaliers tied the game with a run in the bottom-half of the frame, but the Trojans got the lead back in the third inning and never trailed the rest of the game.

In the top of the third, Parkland took the lead back with a run and then added five more in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh. ESS scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback.

Elizabeth Pinkham went 5-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored. Addison Fritzinger went 3-for-5 with three RBI. She also threw a complete game striking out four batters to earn the victory for her team. Allie Flyn was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Each of Ami Patel,

Cheyanne Brawn and Lila Dawson finished with a hit, with Brawn adding two RBs and Dawson scoring a run and contributing an RBI. Gianna Hudock tallied an RBI and scored a run.

Parkland outhit East Stroudsburg South 13-11.

The other quarterfinal round matchups Thursday include fourth-seeded Nazareth hosting the fifth seed, Northampton, sixth-seeded Whitehall at third-seeded Stroudsburg and second-seeded Emmaus welcoming seventh-seeded Liberty.
