NWL girls lacrosse team heats up heading into postseason
The Northwestern girls lacrosse team won three games in a row to finish the season and won five of its last six heading into the postseason,
The Tigers went 11-7 in the regular season and will prepare for the District 11 playoffs, which begin Monday.
Northwestern beat Saucon Valley, Moravian Academy and Scranton Prep in its final three games.
Cali Colistra had a big week with four goals against Saucon Valley and six more against Moravian Academy. The Tigers beat Saucon Valley 12-8 and then downed Moravian Academy 21-9.
Olivia Fagan scored six goals in the pair of wins for Northwestern.
Against the Panthers, Northwestern led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 6-3 at halftime. Ella Collins and Ella Schmidt also contributed with Collins getting three goals and an assist and Collins giving her team two goals. Amanda Breidinger also had a goal for the Tigers.
Going up against Moravian Academy, Northwestern scored early and often with a 9-0 start against the Lady Lions. The Tigers stretched it to an 18-6 margin at the end of the third quarter before getting the 21-9 win. The first game between the two teams was played in a driving rain and saw Northwestern take a 23-5 win.
Colistra scored six times and Fagan scored four goals in the win. Breidinger, Collins, and Schmidt all had two goals. Mykaela Yanders, Hayden Schmidt, and Aubrey Filipovits all added a goal.
In the two wins, goalie Ashley Yacynych had six saves for Northwestern.
Individual statistics for the 16-1 win against Scranton Prep were not received by the Press.
Northwestern will have a rematch with Saucon Valley (7-10) Monday at Emmaus High School in the District 11 2A semifinals.
The other semifinal will have Southern Lehigh (14-4) facing Allentown Central Catholic (4-12). The winners will battle for a district championship Wednesday at Lehigh University.
