Collins scores four goals in win over Lions
Fourteen players scored goals for Northwestern in a 23-5 win over Moravian Academy last week.
Ella Collins led Northwestern with four goals with Cali Colistra and Liv Fagan both scoring three goals. Skyler Dion, Haley Kerschner, Madelyn Lagowy, and M.K. Yanders each scored twice. Maddy Breidinger, Mandy Breidinger, Ella Filipovits, Gracie Scheffler, and Ella Schmidt all scored single goals for the Tigers.
The Lady Tigers also defeated Northampton last week to give them four wins in their last five games. With the postseason just around the corner, Northwestern is coming together at just the right time.
“It took us a little while to get into our rhythm this season,” said Collins, a junior attacker. “But now that we’re in it, we’re just firing on all ends. We did really well on our transitions and we’re taking what we do in practice and seeing it in games now.”
With an 8-6 record and four games remaining on the regular season schedule, Northwestern has a definite path back to the District 11 playoffs. A season ago, Northwestern went into districts as the number three seed in 2A, upset Allentown Central Catholic and advanced to the finals. In an 8-7 battle, the Tigers fell to Southern Lehigh, keeping them from winning the program’s first district championship.
The remaining schedule has games against Saucon Valley (6-7), a district qualifier from last season, and their second game of the season against Moravian Academy (0-14). To finish their season on Monday, Northwestern plays Scranton Prep.
The Colonial League does not have enough teams to sanction lacrosse, so the Tigers go directly into district play without having to play through a league tournament.
