It was an old fashioned city rivalry in the opening round of the District 11 3A tournament, as Freedom and Liberty squared off in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
The Pates entered the tournament as the second seed and hosted the seventh seeded Hurricanes on a night that was past Press deadlines.
Freedom is looking to make a return trip to the D11 finals this year and if they win on Tuesday they’ll most likely have to get through third seeded Emmaus in Thursday’s semifinals at Catasauqua.
The Hornets battle sixth seeded Northampton in Tuesday’s opening round.
The other side of the bracket features top seeded Parkland facing eighth seeded Dieruff. The other pairing features fourth seeded Whitehall hosting fifth seeded Nazareth.
Both semis are Thursday at Catty with the finals set for May 26 at 6:45 p.m. back at Catty.
In 2A, top seeded Southern Lehigh plays fourth seeded Bethlehem Catholic in Wednesday’s semifinals.
Notre Dame and Lincoln Leadership square off in the two-three matchup.

Carter Peters and the rest of the Patriots are looking for a run to the District 11 title and it starts with a game against rival Liberty.
