Catty track shines at districts

At the recent District 11 Class 2A track and field championships, Catasauqua head coach Kyle Rusnock had 12 qualifiers, the same amount as last year.

Yet, this year definitely had a different twist.

The Rough Riders crowned eight champions and four runners-up, all of whom will make the trip to Shippensburg this weekend.

“Our athletes were dialed in and got it done,” boasted Rusnock. “We knew it could happen. That is one thing but how they competed and got after it was amazing.

Winning gold for the Roughies were seniors Hailey Jenkins in the 100 (12:04) and 200 (25.64), Julia Harth in the 100 hurdles (17.04), Josiah Lafond in the 110 hurdles (15.78), Manny Bolmer in the high jump (22-10.75), the girls’ 400 relay team (50.76), and the boys’ 1,600 relay in a time of 3:20.02 (a new school record).

Gaining silver were seniors Hamaad Jenkins in 100 (10.89) and 200 (21.60), and Cadeo Estronza in the 400 (50.46, a new school record) along with the boys’ 400 relay in a time of 42.74.

Harth also finished in the triple jump with a mark of 31-9. Sophomore Evan DeLong was the other finisher in top 10, as he was fifth in the discus (125-3) and eighth in the shot (42-4.5).

Other finishers were sophomores Sabrina Sankari, who was 12th in the 400 (1:07.80); and Jessica Mankos, discus, 58-9, 15th, and javelin, 78-0, 13th; and juniors Ana Rodriguez-Ramos, 400, 110.76, 19th; and Tyler Limandri, 400, 56.87, 18th.

Rusnock certainly will have a lasting memory.

“We have eight district champions and four runners-up advancing,” beamed Rusnock. “We crushed it. It was insane.”
