On a personal note I can remember the cafeteria in the basement of the Schnecksville School, the cooks who worked there, the big aluminum pots, the gigantic mixer and the smells of the food drifting up through the building.
I was a fussy eater and did not like most of it. However, there was one meal I always looked forward to — sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.
We had it quite often and that was a treat for me. I can hardly imagine how children would react to a sauerkraut dinner served in their school cafeteria today.
