Patriots battling for playoff lives

Freedom’s baseball team enters this week with an 8-7 record and are sitting right on the fence of qualifying for the District 11 postseason.

This week the Pates can push things in either direction, depending on how things play out with a four-game slate on the schedule.

“This week is make or break,” said Freedom head coach John Bisco. “I really hope we get the job done because our kids are working really hard and we have battled so many injuries.”

Freedom needs two wins in their final five games to clinch a postseason berth , but it won’t come easy.

Their slate this week includes Phillipsburg (7-6), Bethlehem Catholic (4-12), Northampton (12-4) and Southern Lehigh (13-3).

That’s a tough week, especially playing four games in six days.

Bisco just hopes his group can finish the job and get the wins needed to push towards districts and a potential EPC berth.

“I’m really proud of them,” said Bisco. “Just hope we can make this week memorable and get into the postseason.”

Liberty is one of four teams in District 11’s 6A class that has a 12-4 record, as they head down the home stretch looking for playoff positioning.

The ‘Canes, winners of six straight, have Easton (6-9) and Nazareth (12-4) on deck this week, as they lead the D11 power rankings and the EPC playoff race for the top spot.

Bethlehem Catholic (4-12) is looking for any win with a week that features Freedom and Easton. The Hawks still have a chance at the postseason, since half the teams in District 11 4A will qualify for the playoffs.

With nine teams in the class, it’s still uncertain how things will shake out, but Beca currently sits fifth with a close power rating behind fourth-seeded Jim Thorpe (8-9).
