Liberty fighting for postseason berth
It’s the final week of the regular season for EPC volleyball and Liberty has given themselves a punchers chance towards qualifying for the District 11 tournament.
The Hurricanes (7-6) won all three of their matches last week and are on a four-game win streak as they head into two matches this week against Southern Lehigh (9-4) and Freedom (16-0).
It was a relief to come out of last week unscathed and head coach Daniel Shuck is happy his team has a punchers chance this week.
“Last week was stressful knowing that we needed to secure all three wins,” said Shuck. “However, my assistant coach AJ Muffley ensured that the practices we had leading up to the games were focused on drills to work on improving our defense in areas we have had difficulty with during past games this season. Our players were able to lock in this week and show what our team is capable of.”
Liberty needs one win to clinch a district berth and will be looking to get that against the Spartans. They’re also in the hunt for the EPC playoffs, looking to secure one of the bottom two spots.
“This season started off a bit rough, but we’re very excited to see what we can accomplish in the postseason,” said Shuck. “We also have our Senior Night where we will be hosting Freedom. It’s obviously a very important night because we are rival schools, but it would be great to secure a win against a team who is currently undefeated.”
The Pates are the top team in the EPC and district, as the postseason comes into the picture, but they’ll get their toughest test of the season this week when they take on Emmaus (11-1) before closing things out against Liberty. The Pates need to win both matches in order to secure the top seed in the EPC playoffs.
