LHS girls lacrosse hoping to make more history

Liberty’s girls’ lacrosse team made some history last week and they look to make some more this week.

The Hurricanes (7-8) snapped a four-game slide with an 11-8 victory over Parkland last week.

It was the first time in program history the Hurricanes registered a win over the Trojans, who are regularly one of the top programs in the conference.

That’s no different this year, as Parkland is 12-3 on the year and the loss to Liberty might be the biggest upset of the season.

For Liberty head coach Samantha Rella, it was a great accomplishment for a team that was desperately needing a win.

“Beating Parkland was a huge accomplishment and a historic moment for our program,” said Rella. “It was the first time we’ve done that, and the girls were incredibly proud of what they earned through their hard work. It was truly a team win—our defense played as a cohesive unit and helped secure the result, while six different players contributed points on the offensive end, showing our balance and depth.”

Ellis Corr led the Hurricanes with six goals in the game and Erike Broesicke had 15 saves to help salvage the win and keep them in the hunt for a postseason berth this week.

They have three games left on the season and need to grab two wins in to clinch.

They have Moravian (0-11), Freedom (8-6) and Delaware Valley (5-7) to close out the year and Rella hopes they can make history again by grabbing the first ever win over Freedom.

“The upcoming game against Freedom is another opportunity to make history,” said Rella. “We haven’t beaten them before, and while they earned the win earlier this year, this gives us a chance to respond. As we head into the final stretch, our goal is to continue improving playing as a team, strengthen our record, and earning a spot in districts for the first time in program history.”

Freedom has already clinched a district berth, but have a tough week with showdowns against Nazareth (14-1) and Liberty.
