North Catasauqua: American Legion Post 215 plans May 2 Uncle Smiley concert

Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., will be hosting the Uncle Smiley band 7-10 p.m. May 2. Doors open 5 p.m., and the kitchen will be open 6-9 p.m.

There is a cost, and the event is open to the public.

The first Monday car cruise will take place 5:30-8 p.m. May 4 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. This is an opportunity to show off your classic car while socializing with fellow car enthusiasts.

Entrants can give a donation at the entrance gate, spectators can enjoy the cars free of charge. Food is available for purchase, with all proceeds from food sales going to the Public Library of Catasauqua.

North Catasauqua Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. May 4 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St., to conduct a public hearing and consider the adoption of an ordinance to ordain and open the portion of Ridge Street, between the border of Northampton Borough and Wyandotte Street in the borough.

The borough zoning hearing board will meet 5:30 p.m. May 5 for a public hearing. The Diocese of Allentown will appear before the board to appeal the denial of a zoning permit for a property at 1001-1003 Second St., containing a cemetery and two structures.

The diocese seeks to create a two-lot subdivision to separate the cemetery from the portion of the property containing the structures.

Catasauqua Garden Club will meet May 6 to learn floral arrangements from Deb Mellish, longtime member and past president. Workshop participants should bring a 2- to 5-inch container and scissors or a cutting utensil. Fresh flowers and filler will be provided.

The meeting is at Slovak Center Social Club, 1233 Fifth St., and starts promptly 1 p.m.

American Legion Post 215 will hold a breakfast 8-11 a.m. May 10. Order all of your breakfast favorites off of the menu, including pancakes, creamed chipped beef on toast, omelets and more.

The breakfast is open to the public.

The borough sewer invoices have been mailed out to residents and businesses. Invoices are due by May 11.

There is a penalty fee if invoices are paid on or after May 12.

The borough will hold an electronics recycling event, for residents only, 4-6 p.m. May 12 at the public works complex, 1460 Main St. Participants are asked to remain in their car.

Cash or checks only are accepted. Have exact change or a check prepared. Checks should be made payable to Responsible Recycling Services or RRS.

Many items can be recycled free of charge, but there is a fee for some.

Catasauqua Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale 9 a.m.-noon May 16 at Slovak Center Social Club. Pick up locally grown, reasonably priced potted flowers, vegetables and house plants, seeds and garden art.

St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., is selling presale tickets for its second annual basket social. Presale tickets are available after all Masses May 16 and 17.

The second annual basket social will be held May 30 and 31. Donations and baskets are being accepted for the event.

As a reminder, suggestions for baskets are listed on fliers on the table at the entrance of church. Completed baskets, items for baskets and door prize donations can be placed on the table at the first landing to the church hall. Monetary and gift card donations can be placed in any of the collection baskets or dropped off at the office during regular office hours.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church is having a hoagie sale fundraiser through Island Expressions. Gift cards are also available as part of the fundraiser.

The 2026 park summer cornhole league registration is now open. Register as an individual or as team. Weekly cornhole matches will take place 6 p.m. Tuesdays June 16-Aug. 18 at North Catasauqua park.

There will be one midseason tournament, and the same boards will be used as last year.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee has been busy planning a patriotic celebration, set for July 4 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St. The rain date will be July 5.

The celebration will begin with the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence noon at the George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua. The opening ceremony is set for 1 p.m. at the park. The event will include food trucks, music, craft tables, flea market vendors, a dunk tank, a cornhole tournament and children’s games hosted by the YMCA.

This year’s event will also feature a mega Catasauqua High School class reunion, bringing together graduates from every class, as well as teachers and staff.

The evening will conclude with Flirtin’ with the Mob 7-9 p.m. and a fireworks display at dusk at the CHS Alumni Field football stadium.

Crafters and flea market vendors are still sought, as well as CHS graduates, to help coordinate and plan the mega reunion.

North Catasauqua Police Department would like to remind residents about Project Lifesaver, which is available at no cost for Northampton County residents who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The goal is to provide timely search and rescue services to save lives and prevent injury for at-risk individuals.
