EAC volunteers clean up parkway
The Whitehall Environmental Advisory Council enjoyed nice weather April 11 during another of its cleanup events in the township. Council leader Deb Rosene was delighted with the weather and the civic-minded volunteers who took a couple hours on a Saturday morning to make Whitehall better.
This day’s cleanup was around the Whitehall Parkway. The 10-member volunteer team fanned out with all wearing the bright orange vests, old jeans, work shoes and gloves as they carried handheld grabbers to pick up debris to place in garbage bags. Katrina and her mother Karen De Lorenzo, both of Whitehall, were dressed in their “let’s clean up some things” attire.
Rosene reported the group filled 46 bags of trash and collected a couple of car bumpers — as well as an inflatable flamingo.
The EAC members are appointed by the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners to serve as advisers focused on environmental conservation and improvement throughout the township. They have monthly meetings to provide input to the township commissioners and participate in EAC activities, such as annual electronic recycling and document shredding events, open space and recreation plan input, oversight and approval for Eagle Scout projects planned to improve open space areas, sponsoring the application for federal and state grants to help environmental improvements and more.
The EAC members meet 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at the township public meeting room in the government center at 3219 MacArthur Road.
