During the April 20 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, council approved resolution 406, which allows Councilwoman Jessica Cope, chair of the public property, parks and building committee, to apply for a Community Conservation Partnerships Program state grant up to $160,000.
If awarded, the funds will be used for the restoration of the volleyball and basketball courts.
Council discussed the summer schedule for meetings. Usually, council meets only one time in these few months. The tentative schedule includes meeting the first Monday of the month only instead of both the first and third Mondays. Those dates for meetings — May 4, June 1, July 6 and Aug. 3 — are not yet official and may change based on council members’ schedules.
The summer schedule is expected to be finalized at the meeting May 4.
During Treasurer Tricia Tillman’s report, council approved sewer relief for 1235 Second St.
Also, Tillman said dividend checks were received from MRM Inc. for insurance and were deposited into special projects. The amounts include $15,618.91 for property and liability and $33,841.82 for workers’ compensation.
Police Chief Christopher Wolfer updated council on his process with extending the warranty for the Polaris UTV. An external vendor did not want to offer a warranty for the vehicle, so Wolfer resorted to discussing extending the warranty with the original company — Polaris.
As of the council meeting, Wolfer was still in talks with Polaris. The current warranty expired April 22.
Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. reported tickets were sold out for the J4 Celebration basket bingo fundraiser, which was held April 25.
Under fire, civil service and operations reports, fire Chief Roger Scheirer said there was a leak found in the fire station. He said public works will be fixing the leak with a rubber coat seal.
The building is currently being used as a fitness facility. None of the equipment was damaged, Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits said after the meeting.
Council thanked Grove Street Pub and Grill for donating the funds to purchase rubber flooring for the fitness center.
The next borough council meeting will be held 7 p.m. May 4 at the municipal building, 1066 Fourth St.
