Borough, Mako hold shredding event

The April 18 shredding event held by state Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, and Northampton Borough took place on a beautiful spring morning and was well attended. The event was held at Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave. The paper shredding event was for Northampton residents only.

Mako greeted residents as they lined up their cars in the parking lot. He noted the popular event has been held annually since 2017.

Pro-Shred Security, of Paoli, was contracted to handle the paper and documents. They were very efficient as they completed their duties, it was reported. Pro-Shred’s slogan is “information destruction at your door.”

Mako said he expected as many as 150 cars will participate in the two-hour event.

The effort included the Northampton Fire Department’s fire police who coordinated traffic control and the borough street department who rolled up their sleeves to collect documents and feed the shredding machines. Northampton Borough Manager Brian Welsko lent a helping hand and lifted and carried boxes of papers.

Three teams volunteered to make the event a success. The fire police coordinated the set up and safe pass through of the cars. Welsko and his team assisted the dumping of the paper articles, and Mako’s team marshaled the greeting tent and answered any questions.

The shredding event allows residents to have their important, no-longer-needed private documents and accumulated paper shredded at no cost to the resident. Another benefit is that residents do not need to get out of their vehicles to rid themselves of unwanted documents.

Residents clearly appreciated the shredding event. Sharon Braker, of Northampton, was satisfied she got rid of documents and was delighted to meet briefly with Mako.

It was a successful event, planned, coordinated and executed efficiently by local government at no cost to the resident participants.
