FREEDOM HS NEWS By Jessica Mooney

The countdown is in full swing for the Patriots. With just over a month remaining, the school atmosphere has shifted as everyone works hard to push through these final weeks. Whether it’s preparing for Advanced Placement exams, Keystones, finals or enjoying last moments with friends, there’s a shared sense of urgency and excitement in the air.

As college acceptances continue to roll in, the Class of 2026 is preparing to take the next step toward their futures. Seniors will be celebrating their final day of high school on May 18, with their final exams May 20 and 21. Graduation will be June 4 at Stabler Arena, marking an end to their high school careers.

As for the underclassmen, their last full day is June 3 with final exams on June 4 and 5. Good luck to all of the students taking final exams this spring. Don’t forget to study Freedom.

Over on the field, the Freedom athletic department has been setting new expectations and shaping a novel reality, especially our girls softball team. Captains Nameila Duro and Payton Besecker direct with determination, pride and unity, guiding their team with leadership that never goes unnoticed. Having played together since elementary school, Duro and Besecker have built a strong bond both on and off the field–one that sets them apart from other teams in the conference and plays a key role in their success.

When this column was written, the team held a 10-2 record, with wins against Easton Area Red Rovers and Northampton Varsity Konkrete Kids. Although Duro and Besecker are the driving force duo, junior Madison Bixler, who is committed to continue her academic and softball career at the Division 1 level at East Tennessee State University, stands at the forefront of the team’s triumphs. A strong and reliable pitcher, Bixler recently celebrated her 200th career strikeout, continuing to prove her dominance on the team while making a major impact both offensively and defensively.

As the school year winds down, the Freedom community continues to demonstrate resilience, dedication and pride both in the classroom and on the field. From academic achievements to athletic success, students are making the most of every remaining moment. With graduation on the way and summer just around the corner, the Patriots are finishing strong and setting the tone for a bright future ahead.
