Trojans top Allen, PMW

The Parkland High School softball team won two of its four recent games.

The Trojans defeated Allen 16-0 in three innings last Tuesday, March 24. The next day, Parkland was downed by Whitehall 6-3 in eight innings, but bounced back with a victory over Pocono Mountain West, 15-7, Friday. This past Tuesday, Parkland fell to Northampton 8-1.

In the win over the Canaries, Parkland scored four runs in the top of the first, added 10 more in the second and then finished it off with two in the third.

The offense had 15 hits, compared to Allen’s one. Allie Flynt led the lineup with three hits and added two RBIs and scored two runs.

Addison Fritzinger, Gianna Hudock and Elizabeth Pinkham tallied two hits, with Fritzinger recording a team-high four RBIs. Ami Patel, Gabriella Morrison, Molley Heckenberger, Cheyanne Brawn, Holly Chase and Sarah Link all had one hit.

Fritzinger and Lila Dawson combined to throw the three innings, allowing just one hit.

In the game with the Zephyrs, both teams scored twice in the third inning and then Whitehall took a 3-2 lead with a run in the fourth. The Trojans tied it in the bottom of the sixth with a run, but the Zephyrs were able to rally for three runs in the top of the eighth to finish off the game. Parkland was outhit 8-5 and got two hits from Pinkham and one each from Patel, Brawn and Morrison, with Pinkham recording two RBIs and Flynt adding one.

In the victory over the Panthers, the Trojans trailed 3-2 after one and then 4-2 in the bottom of the third when they completely turned the tides in their favor with a nine-run third.

They added one more run in the fourth and another in the sixth. Parkland had a season-high 19 hits, led by four from both Pinkham and Morrison, who also both tallied three RBIs.

Patel, Fritzinger, Flynt, Hudock and Chase all recorded two hits, with Hudock leading the way with three RBIs. Fritzinger threw a complete game for the win, striking out three batters.

Against the Kids, Northampton never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead after one, 3-0 after four, 4-1 following six innings and then adding four more in the seventh. Parkland outhit the Kids 7-5, but had six errors defensively. Fritzinger finished with two hits and an RBI and Patel, Pinkham, Hudock, Chase and Linko all had one hit.

Parkland is 2-3 overall and in conference.
