Parkland softball team beats Dieruff, falls to Easton, P-bug

The Parkland High School softball team went 1-2 last week in two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games and one nonconference game.

The Trojans began the week with a 9-3 loss to Easton last Thursday and then fell to Phillipsburg 3-1 in a nonconference game Saturday afternoon. But the Trojans responded with a 16-1 EPC home victory over Dieruff this past Monday.

In the game with the Red Rovers, Parkland took a 2-0 lead after a two-run top of the first inning. Easton tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third and then took full control of the game with a seven-run bottom of the fifth inning.

The Trojans finished with six hits, led by two from Addison Fritzinger, who also had two RBIs and scored a run. Elizabeth Pinkham, Shayla Jenkins, Gabriella Morrison and Lorelei Sullivan all had one hit, with Morrison adding an RBI.

Against the Stateliners, Phillipsburg scored a run in the top of the first before Parkland tied it with one in the bottom of the third. The Stateliners finished off the victory with a run in both the sixth and seventh innings.

The Trojans ended with three hits, all coming from the top three in the lineup as Pinkham, Ami Patel and Jenkins had the hits and Pinkham tallied an RBI.

In the victory over the Huskies, Parkland scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added three more in both the second and third innings. The Trojans did this all with eight hits, two each from Pinkham and Fritzinger, who also both added two RBIs.

Patel had a hit and three RBIs, while Morrison recorded a hit and two RBIs. Gianna Hudock finished with one hit and five RBIs and Cheyanne Brawn contributed a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Fritzinger got the start inside the circle and only needed to throw two innings for the win, giving up one hit, an unearned run and struck out three batters.

Parkland improved 5-9 overall and 5-6 in the conference with the win over Dieruff.
