Hornets rout ’Canes
The Emmaus baseball team went 2-1 last week with wins in both of its East Penn Conference games.
The Hornets won back to back games against East Stroudsburg North and Liberty last Monday and Tuesday, March 30-31, before falling to Wilson West Lawn Saturday.
Emmaus had an eight-run first inning en route to a 15-0 win over East Stroudsburg North. Five runs in the third inning and two in the fourth ended the game by the 15-run mercy rule.
Tanner Karwacki went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and two runs in the win. Robert Barnes (2-for-3) and Ryan Hummell (2-for-4, 2R) also had two hits each in the win. Connor Horwath drove in four runs on one hit, while Chase Simmons knocked in three runs in a 1-for-2 effort.
Barnes pitched 3.2 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out seven batters to get the win.
A four-run first inning sparked Emmaus in a 12-2 win over Liberty in six innings. Josh Diaz went 2-for-3 with three RBI against Liberty. Karwacki (2-fo-3) also knocked in a pair of runs, while Hummel (2-for-3) had two RBI and two runs against the Hurricanes. Cole Moreau allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out six batters. Jaden Betz pitched one hitless inning.
Emmaus dropped a nonleague game against Wilson West Lawn Saturday, 8-3.
The Hornets had eights hits in the loss, with Hummel going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Chase Simmons (2-for-3) also had a pair of hits while knocking in two runs.
Horwath allowed six runs on six hits to take the loss. Betz pitched three scoreless innings while giving up three hits and striking out three batters.
Emmaus headed into this week at 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the East Penn Conference.
The Hornets are in a crowded Lehigh Division that has four teams with one or no losses in league play, including Parkland (4-2 overall; 4-0 EPC), Central Catholic (4-1, 4-1) and Whitehall (6-1, 5-1).
