Hornet boys lax edges NWL

The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team went 1-1 last week.

The Hornets beat Northwestern Lehigh 8-7 in overtime in a nonconference game last Tuesday night, March 31. Emmaus concluded the week with a loss to Boyertown, 12-6 last Thursday.

In the win over the Tigers, Emmaus got a little bit of revenge from last season when they were downed by Northwestern in overtime. This season, the Hornets turned the table and walked off their home field as victors in extra time.

Emmaus led 4-3 after the opening quarter, but the Tigers scored two of the three goals in the second quarter to tie the score 5-5 at halftime. Emmaus scored the lone goal of the third quarter, but then Northwestern once again outscored them 2-1 in the fourth to force overtime. Dylan Maloney had a hat trick, but also recorded the game-winning goal as the OT victor with just 0:44 left.

Greyson Schmidt scored two goals and Colin Garrett, Aiden Issler and Anthony Attar found the back of the net once each. Attar added two assists. Sam Pechulis contributed an assist and Max Weber won both of his faceoffs. Liam Lewis finished with 13 saves in net for the win.

Against the Bears, Maloney and Garrett each tallied two goals and both Schmidt and Attar added a goal each. Attar, Maloney, Schmidt and Garrett all dished out an assist. Emmaus held a 16-8 advantage in faceoffs won, with Garrett taking 14 of 20 and Weber winning 2 of 4. Lewis made nine saves.

Emmaus moved to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
