Pates Jimenez, Silvius third

Freedom’s No. 4 doubles team of Ian Jimenez and Zane Silvius took third place at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on April 16 at Freedom.

Jimenez and Silvius were the fifth seed in a field of eight.

The Patriot pair defeated Allentown Central Catholic, 8-4, in the quarterfinal and lost to Parkland, 10-1, in the semifinal.

“They had a really strong day,” said Freedom coach Zach Lebby.

Competing for bronze medals, Jimenez and Silvius defeated Emmaus, 8-5.

“That Emmaus squad 8-zeroed them the last time they played them, and this time, my guys pulled out the win, so I’m proud of them, and that shows how much work they’ve been putting in this season,” Lebby said. “They communicated and showed them different formations they weren’t used to. They were just on top of their games today.”

This was the first year Jimenez, a junior, and Silvius, a sophomore, played together as a doubles pair.

“They were listening, they were taking my coaching, and we had a plan and executed that plan which ended up working out for us,” said Lebby. “It’s really rewarding. If you’re losing 8-0 to a team and then you’re able to beat them by the end of the season, that’s really, really impressive.”
