Labbadia honored

Moravian University junior Gavin Labbadia (Freedom HS) has been honored as the Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Labbadia helped the Greyhounds to a 2-1 record including a pair of wins in Landmark Conference action. Labbadia had a 3-0 mark during the week at singles action, winning at second singles in a 7-0 win at Wilkes University, at fourth singles in a 5-2 victory versus Goucher College, and at third singles in a 6-1 loss to TCNJ. Labbadia’s win versus Goucher clinched the victory, the first for the Hounds over the Gophers since 2014, snapping a 14-match losing streak that included ten regular season and four postseason contests. Labbadia teamed with sophomore Roman Farhad for a 2-1 record at second doubles during the week.

“This is a very well-deserved recognition for Gavin, and I am extremely happy for him,” stated Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. “He had a phenomenal weekend, clinching the match against Goucher in a hard-fought three-set battle, helping us earn a win over them for the first time since 2014. He then followed that up the next day with another impressive singles win against a very strong TCNJ team. Gavin gives so much to our program both on and off the court, and we are fortunate to have him on our side.”
