Walnuttown firefighter receives honorary escort

Multiple Lehigh County and Berks County fire departments were on hand to honor Walnuttown Fire Company Assistant Fire Chief Robert Shick, Jr., as his body was transported to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, 4350 Broadway, South Whitehall Township, April 5.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s office is contracted to perform autopsies on first responders who die in the line of duty from Berks County.

Shick and Fire Chief Jeff Buck were killed while operating a fire department utility vehicle during a search for a missing woman near Fleetwood.

Their utility vehicle was hit by a driver who was allegedly driving under the influence.

Both officers had many years as volunteers at the Walnuttown Fire Company that included family members as well.

Shick’s body was transported to the coroner’s office by Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown.

Lehigh County Coroner, Dan Buglio, organized the arrival to his office with several deputy coroners assisting.
