Public Library of Catasauqua: Spring brings new events, programs

After an eventful couple of weeks at the library, things are settling into spring, which means steadily growing life and activity!

The staff and Friends of the Public Library of Catasauqua thanks all those who donated items and time to our book and bake sale — and also those who came and bought. The money earned is needed and will be put to good use for programs and materials.

The Gaming Club for kids and teens will now meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday. Tech and gaming help is available for anyone who wants it. All skill levels are welcome.

We have computers for use here at the library on a first-come basis, but also feel free to bring your own device.

The adult book club will meet 3 p.m. May 6. This month, we’re reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Come out to take part in or listen to the discussion in our auditorium.

Our latest history program, a night with Benedict Arnold, was a success for us. It was a great evening of storytelling and discussion. Thank you to Glenn Eckhart for all the work he put in and to all those who came out and made the evening memorable.

Our next history program will be held June 3, when author Anne Supsic will visit us to discuss her book about the Marquis de Lafayette and his time in Bethlehem.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the library.

Unearth a Story is the theme for this year’s summer reading program, one of our most popular programs every year. The summer reading and crafting sessions begin 3 p.m. June 17, and they will continue every Thursday through July, except for July 2.

Stop by or call to sign up or get a schedule of events.

Our new collection of classic board games is on display and ready for use. Come down to the library on a rainy spring day and play a game with an old friend or make a new one. Anyone who beats the director at Backgammon gets a certificate!

Don’t forget about the reading and craft activity for kids and their caregivers 4 p.m. every Thursday in the second-floor space, as well as our fiber arts group, called Stitches, which meets 5:30 p.m. every Monday at the downstairs conference table.

Both groups are wonderfully open spaces for regulars and newcomers to share time and activity.
