Could a trail connection be coming?
The Upper Milford Board of Supervisors held an executive session before the start of the April 2 regular meeting to discuss a legal matter.
In public comment resident Randy Kraft, of Linda Lane, spoke on behalf of his neighbors regarding a road put at the bottom of their driveway when they were told 50 years ago that a cul-de-sac would be there. Instead, a temporary “T” was put in and their driveway has now become a turnaround for misguided traffic.
Kraft reported the mailbox has been damaged. He explained the township had placed a “No Outlet” sign preventing some, but not all traffic, from coming into the area. Kraft added his neighbors “have been fighting this for a long time.”
He described the end of the road connects with the Maple Ridge subdivision and there is an unfinished trail. He inquired about what is planned for the trail. Kraft wanted his concerns and those of his neighbors on the record.
“I was the first resident there in 1974,” he said. “I have been waiting almost 50 years for a cul-de-sac.”
He also mentioned excess water collects at the bottom of the driveway creating dangerous areas of ice during cold spells. He explained the road is now paved but it is “breaking up like crazy.” The neighboring community of Maple Ridge’s roads received a second layer of macadam. “Are we getting a second layer?” he asked.
Supervisor John Zgura explained the roads are maintained by the township over a seven-year span for macadam. Zgura was unsure how much of the road is township road and whether or not anything more could be done without infringing upon people’s properties. Zgura explained the township will need to look into the issue. Zgura noted that the developer’s original pipe does not handle the water there and a new pipe is being put in to capture more of the water runoff.
Kraft also shared concerns about safety and asked the township for barricades to prevent vehicles, specifically motorcycles, from getting on the popular walking trail.
Zgura explained the township will need about two weeks to research the concerns. Zgura assured Kraft Upper Milford Township Manager Bud Carter would research the questions and get answers.
“The builder (of Maple Ridge) is one of the best the township has worked with. Carter will reach out and find out what we can do,” Zgura said.
The next meeting will take place 7 p.m. April 16 in the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.
