Carbon County man killed in head-on Upper Macungie Twp crash

A 27-year-old Carbon County man died at a hospital after being involved in a head-on collision 6:14 p.m. Feb. 19 on Route 100 north of Wertman Road, Upper Macungie Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Bugilo, Oneil D. Fletcher, of Lansford, was pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. the same night in the emergency department at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.

Buglio said the cause of Fletcher’s death is multiple blunt force injuries.

The manner of his death was ruled an accident, Buglio said.

According to the Upper Macungie Township Police Department, police, fire and EMS were dispatched to the area for a motor vehicle crash with entrapment.

Police say, upon arrival and initial investigation, it was determined a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 61-year-old Breinigsville man allegedly crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Honda sedan driven by the Lansford man, head-on.

Both drivers were seriously injured and required mechanical extrication.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where the Lansford man was later pronounced deceased, police said.

In addition to Upper Macungie Township police, this collision is being investigated with the assistance of the Lehigh County Accident Reconstruction team and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

Upper Macungie Township Bureau of Fire assisted at the scene.
