Computer purchase approved for police department

Alburtis Borough Council convened for its regular meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 28.

Council formally opened the public meeting with a call to order and the Pledge of Allegiance before inviting residents to address council during the public comment period.

Former Alburtis mayor Kathleen Palmer stepped to the podium and asked those in the community to thank the borough’s road crew, especially with the amount of work they get done with the numbers they have. Palmer stated she saw a lot of negative comments on social media.

“We should be going out and helping one another. Not standing around and making nasty comments,” Palmer said.

Council then welcomed representatives from the East Penn Chamber of Commerce, Hayden Rinde and Chloe Krempasky, who provided an overview of the chamber’s role in supporting local businesses, promoting regional economic development and hosting events within the community. The presentation highlighted opportunities for borough involvement in upcoming initiatives and events aimed at strengthening ties between municipalities and the local business community.

Mayor Hector Moss delivered a quick report updating council on a couple of administrative activities and ongoing priorities.

Council proceeded with an approval of the meeting minutes from Jan. 14 and authorized payment of bills dated Jan. 28, following routine review. The fiscal consultant’s report was also presented and accepted, offering council an update on the borough’s financial position and budgetary considerations.

New business began with a presentation from Lower Macungie Fire Department representative Ryan Trexler, who discussed departmental operations, mutual aid coordination and service to the borough.

Council then approved the issuance of volunteer tax credit certificates for members of the Lower Macungie Township Fire Department, recognizing their service and confirming eligibility under the state’s volunteer tax credit program.

Council acknowledged a letter of retirement and resignation from a member of the borough’s maintenance department, formally accepting the notice. Council decided to table the request to advertise the vacant maintenance position.

Council also approved a request to purchase new personal computers for the police department, citing the need to maintain reliable and up-to-date technology to support law enforcement operations and administrative work.

The meeting concluded with a financial update noting the receipt of $16,149.25 in franchise fees from SECTV, which council accepted and directed to be recorded as part of the borough’s revenues.

With no further business, council adjourned after addressing all agenda items.

The next meeting will be held 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Alburtis Borough Hall, 260 Franklin St.
