Board members recognized for their service
The Northwestern Lehigh School Board held a brief meeting, Jan. 21.
After opening exercises and procedures, approval of the meeting agenda and courtesy of the floor, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Troy Sosnovik recognized the board during recognitions and presentations on the agenda.
“January is board appreciation month,” he said. “I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank our board members for their dedicated service to the district. Their leadership and unwavering commitment play a vital role in guiding our schools and supporting the success of our entire school community.
“We are truly grateful for all that you do. So, on behalf of the school district, I would like to thank Mr. John Casciano, Mr. Willard Dellinger, Mr. Joseph Fatzinger, Mr. Todd Hernandez, Mrs. Becky Hite, Dr. Lauren Hunsicker, Mr. Todd Leiser, Mrs. Rachael Scheffler and Mrs. Jennifer Senavaitis for their dedication and support. In honor of your service, we would like to present you with a small token of appreciation (a vest bearing Northwestern’s logo) which you can find on the back of your chair. We hope you wear them proudly.”
Under curriculum and building issues on the agenda, Dr. Sosnovik told the board the school district was once again fortunate to receive funding through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the 2025-2026 School Safety and Mental Health Grant. This year’s grant amount is approximately $137,448. This money will be used to expand our safety and security enhancements in addition to our mental health and behavior programs. We’re asking for your approval so our team can finish the grant writing process and receive the money,” Sosnovik said.
Also, under curriculum and building issues, the board approved the 2026-27 school calendar and support staff calendar that were discussed at the board’s workshop meeting earlier this month.
Under district finances, the board approved a motion for Academic Entertainment from Pullman, Wash., to perform its “bGreat Show” assembly for Weisenberg Elementary on Feb. 23. “The bGreat Show” is a magic, comedy, storytelling show about anti bullying, trustworthiness, fairness, respect, responsibility, caring and citizenship. The cost is $1,345 and will be paid from Student Activities funds.
Under new business, the board approved accepting the $10,000 donation received from Lehigh Valley Education Credit Union which has been making donations to the school district for the last five years.
It was mentioned that the credit union asks that the school district use the funds for something that it didn’t expect or hadn’t budgeted for.
The next scheduled board meeting will be 7 p.m., Feb. 18.
