STUDENT PROFILE
Grade: 12th
Family: My parents Leidy and Jaime Mantilla, and my siblings Leidy A., Jonathan, and Christian. Along with my four pets: Kitty Kitty Meow Meow, Smokey, Bella, and Birdy.
Favorite subject(s): I’m torn between my Honors Gov. & Politics class and PLTW (Project Lead The Way) classes. Both have had a major influence on me and my future goals. My PLTW teacher taught me to never give up and to always work on finding solutions to problems even when it seems impossible. My Government teacher inspired my love for politics and helped me realize what I wanted to major in and what profession I want.
Activities: I’m the president of Liberty’s Interact Club and founder of the Golden Friends at the Atrium of Allentown.
Next steps: I plan to pursue a bachelor’s in Political Science and then earn a law degree in corporate law.
Career goals: For my future profession I have chosen for it to be in law because I want to have the power to advocate for those in need, use the law to help others, and make meaningful change in my community and beyond. What excites me most about this career path is the opportunity to combine leadership and communication with my deep passion for justice, while also challenging myself to consume as much knowledge as possible. I want to dedicate my life to a profession that demands intellectual growth and allows me to serve others in a lasting way.
Heroes: My heroes are my parents, Leidy and Jaime Mantilla. They have been by my side since the very beginning of course, but I truly thank them for all the countless sacrifices they have made both seen and unseen for my success and future. To them, I owe the biggest thanks as they have shaped me into the person I am today and the successful woman I am becoming. In addition to their sacrifice, they are my heroes because they are the people I admire the most. My mother who is a strong-willed, courageous, gorgeous woman who inspires me daily, and my father who is the kindest, wisest person I know- my great protector.
Hobbies: I enjoy volunteering, reading, exploring New York City with my family, and horseback riding.
Current job(s): I’m not currently employed, but I proudly serve as the Ambassador to Future Youth and Young Adult Volunteers for the Judith Adele Agentis Charitable Foundation.
Volunteer/community work: I volunteer regularly with the senior residents at the Atrium of Allentown and The Care Team. My volunteering work is mostly centered towards the elderly after witnessing firsthand the need for companionship among seniors. So, I’ve happily dedicated my time to offering love, compassion, and joy to them. I also organize fundraisers for various nonprofits like the Judith Adele Agentis Charitable Foundation and Bloom.
Likes: I love New York City as I truly see it as the place where dreams become realities, helping others and making people feel included, and creative projects (art, creative writing, volunteering event planning).
Dislikes: missed opportunities, giving up easily, injustice, and of course mosquitoes.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far has been pushing past the limits imposed on me by my disability. Not allowing my disability to control me has helped strengthen me by teaching me perseverance, how to adapt, and empathy. It’s taught me to not shy away from obstacles, but to approach challenges with determination and to always look for ways to grow. Which led me to building strong community connections through service and in turn I’m proud to have created similar opportunities that have brought people together and have made a positive impact.
Advice for peers: My advice to my peers is to never let fear or doubt hold you back! Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way, even when you may feel unsure, because those moments will positively shape who you become. Challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone, meet new people, and embrace new experiences. Success isn’t just about your personal achievements alone, it’s about using your growth to give back, to lift up others, and to leave a legacy of kindness and courage.
