George E. Schlegel, 96, of New Tripoli, died Dec. 24, 2025. He was the husband of Nancy J. (Leibensperger) Schlegel for 58 years. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late George and Emily (Riefsnyder) Schlegel.

He was a graduate of Allentown High School. He was a mechanic for Mack Trucks for 28 years and was a member of the United Automobile Workers of America.

He honorably served as a corporal in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed woodworking and bird watching. He loved his cats, Mr. Peepers and Mini-Me.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lori Schlegel-Kees, of Hummelstown; stepson, Robert Wolfe (Rebecca), of Kempton; grandchildren, Owen Kees, Erin Miller.

Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St., Fogelsville, handled the arrangements.
