In a Jan. 13 news release, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan and Catasauqua Borough Police Chief John Wiseman announced details of an ongoing shooting investigation.

In the overnight hours of Jan. 12 in the borough of Catasauqua, a suspected car thief was interrupted by a resident who brandished a firearm and fired a number of rounds at the suspect. The suspected car thief was struck at least once.

The victim of the gunfire fled the area and was transported to an area hospital in a private vehicle, according to the release. The victim received medical treatment and was admitted as a patient.

No arrests had been made by press time.

The investigation is being conducted by the Catasauqua Borough Police Department with assistance by the Pennsylvania State Police Forensics Services Unit and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
