ANNUAL MARCH: The Dr. Martin Luther King Civil Rights Movement March is scheduled to take place rain or shine on Monday, Jan. 19.

Participants should meet at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Comfort Suites located at 120 West 3rd Street and the procession will leave at 11:45 a.m. to proceed to Martin Luther King Park on Carlton Avenue, the location of memorials to both Dr. King and his wife Coretta Scott King.

Guest speakers and honored guests scheduled to attend are Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds; Judges from the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas; Chief of Staff for Pennsylvania Senator Lisa Boscola, Joe Kelly; and City of Easton executive Assistant to the Mayor, Carlton Ketchen.

This year’s march will honor three (3) generations of marchers and the children involved in the march.

All residents, municipal employees, law enforcement agencies and public and private school employees are invited to attend.

Refreshments will be served at the Comfort Suites following the march, as well as an award presentation to the National Flag Football Team Champions.

WINTER BINGO: The public is invited to attend a Winter Bingo Fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at The Birches of Lehigh Valley, 5030 Freemansburg Avenue.

Participants can enjoy an afternoon of bingo with gift cards and other prizes available to win. The cost to play is $10, which includes a bingo book and dauber. GREAT DECISIONS: Former U.S. Representative Susan Wild will address the opening session of the Great Decisions Lecture Series on President Trump’s foreign policy at 11 a.m. on January 28 at Kirkland Village in Bethlehem. Her presentation will address President Trump’s severance from 80 years of U.S. foreign policy diplomacy as he now embraces an “America first” approach. The lecture series is sponsored by Northampton Community College (NCC).

Wild’s presentation is the first of eight lectures on current American foreign policy issues identified by the Foreign Policy Association in NYC, a private, non-partisan think tank. The local Great Decisions Committee leads this program, which runs Wednesdays from Jan. 28 through March 18 at Kirkland Village.

Program cost is $90 for individuals ($125 per couple) for registration by January 7 and $100 per person ($135 per couple) after January 7. Attendance fee at the door is $20.

Signup online at https://bit.ly/3BWBuvn (for individuals) and https://bit.ly/4hmrAn6 (for couples).

POPUP EVENT: Each year, more than 200 local teens visit our Pop-Up Prom Shop to find a gown or pant suit for their prom night. For many families, the cost of prom attire can be a significant barrier. This program helps ensure that students can attend this milestone event with confidence and dignity. With community support, students are able to select a dress for $20, and thanks to donated dress vouchers, we are also able to provide free attire to students who need additional support.

We are currently collecting gently used dresses and women’s pant suits and would be grateful for the opportunity to share this initiative with the community through your platform.
