“The Yale Glee Club will present a full-concert set, but the element that makes this concert truly unique are the closing pieces performed by several local groups joining the Glee Club,” says David Macbeth, Concord Chamber Singers Artistic Director and First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem Choirmaster and Director of Music Ministries and Chancel Choir Director.

The Yale Glee Club, which is Yale University’s premier undergraduate choir, presented its “Winter Concert Tour,” 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9, at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem.

In addition to the Glee Club’s selections, the concert featured works that include the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Concord Chamber Singers, Charter Arts High School Touring Choir, and the First Presbyterian Chancel Choir.

The more than 250 voices were led by Jeffrey Douma, Director of the Yale Glee Club and Marshall Bartholomew Professor in the Practice of Choral Music at the Yale School of Music.

Says Macbeth, “This concert has come about through a connection with a Charter Arts touring choir alumni who is now a student at Yale.”

Joint concert selections included “In the Wondrous Blending of Sounds” by Lehigh Valley-based three-time Grammy-nominated conductor and composer Benedict Sheehan and “Raise Your Voices Here” by Douma.

“With over 250 voices joining in the rousing finale it’s going to be a spectacular evening of choral music,” Macbeth says.

Founded in 1861, the Yale Glee Club is Yale University’s oldest musical organization. The 85-voice ensemble is comprised of students from many backgrounds with diverse music and academic interests.
