Fundraising begins for portable sound shells

The Parkland Education Foundation has recently begun fundraising for an exciting addition to the Parkland High School auditorium: portable sound shells.

A sound shell, also referred to as an acoustic shell, is a portable structure with hard, reflective surfaces placed behind and above performers on the auditorium stage in order to improve sound quality and acoustics.

The beautiful Parkland High School auditorium is host to nearly all of the school’s concerts and theater performances, including choir, band and orchestra concerts, the fall play and the highly anticipated spring musical.

In an auditorium so large, it is often difficult to project sound to the entire audience, whether playing an instrument or singing with a microphone. With the addition of sound shells, the talents of these young artists will truly be able to shine.

The implementation of sound shells has been a longtime dream of both teachers and students involved in the arts at Parkland. A senior at Parkland, Eden Sendef, said, “As someone involved in both band and orchestra, its really difficult to project sound well when we’re performing in the auditorium – regardless if I’m playing an instrument or singing. I think sound shells would really help to bring our music to life.”

The Parkland Education Foundation is looking to raise $40,000 to purchase sound shells for this year’s spring musical in early April.

If you are able to contribute to this fundraising effort and amplify the arts at Parkland, visit the Parkland Education Foundation website. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, is welcome!
