Bethlehem police are investigating a Jan. 2 incident that may be deemed a murder-suicide.
According to a department release, officers were dispatched to a home the 200 block of 10th Avenue around 10:15 p.m. A child dropped off from a playdate came back outside reporting a “serious issue” and the adult driver called 911.
Once at the scene officers allegedly discovered two deceased adults and a firearm in the basement. Two additional juveniles were found in the residence; all three were children of the deceased couple and have been placed in the care of family members. An older adult was in a separate part of the home and appeared unaware of the incident, and is not considered a suspect.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio July 5 identified the deceased were identified by as 39-year-old Sarah A. Rice and 42-year-old Greg. A. Johnson. Both were pronounced dead arond 11:30 that night, and an autopsy concluded cause of death in both cases was by a single gunshot wound to the head.
The manner of death will remain pending until the investigation by the DA’s office and Bethlehem Police is concluded.
