Regec, Kids eye deep playoff runs

Last season, Leo Regec was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the East Penn Conference (EPC) championship game in which he scored a team-high 21 points in leading the Konkrete Kids to their first-ever EPC crown.

This season, Regec and his senior teammates are confident they can defend their crown and make a deep postseason run.

The Kids began the season with a 6-0 record, only having one game with less than a 10-point deficit. The team fell to Parkland before two more wins and sit at 8-1.

Regec knows the road ahead will be a long one.

“I see the season as a great start, but we aren’t finished yet,” noted Regec, recently. “We always have had a very tough game against Parkland. I feel our expectations are high this season because of the ending of last season, but we have all embraced that as a team.”

Regec has watched the team bond tighten, and recognizes how newcomers Marcus Ramos, Andrew Eberts, and Chase Christman have blended into the mix.

“They have all stepped up and shown major improvements and contributed a lot so far,” stated Regec. “We all have to play our roles.

Regec has maximized his role as being one of the team’s sharpshooters, as well as displaying a rigid and consistent work ethic on both ends of the court.

“I think he is the best pure shooter in the league,” boasted Kids’ head coach Matt Scholl. “He shot 45-percent from three last season and shot 50-percent through six games. He has also improved his overall game significantly and plays the top of our matchup zone as good as anyone I have ever coached.

“Leo is proof that passion for the game and hard work matter. He wasn’t the best player in middle school, but he worked to become one of our top players over the last two seasons.”

If the Kids are to continue their success, Regec believes it will be because of their team unity.

“As a team, we have all worked on all parts of our game with the coaches coming up with different drills every practice to improve us,” said Regec. “I feel as if our chemistry is only improving. The younger players have fit in just well with us.

“I pride myself in shooting because that’s how I see myself contributing to the team. We will keep our expectations high.”

Leo Regec, shown last season, has developed into a one of the Kids top shooters.
