PHS girls start 5-0
The Parkland High School girls basketball team has remained unblemished to open the 2025-26 season.
Last Friday, Parkland defeated Pocono Mountain West 60-12 in an East Penn Conference game and followed that with another large margin of victory in a 52-14 win over Wyomissing Area.
It is not only the fifth consecutive victory to start the season, but the fifth win by more than 29 points. Parkland’s average margin of victory so far is 33.4 points.
In the win against the Panthers, Parkland led 21-6 after the opening quarter and then 44-10 at halftime. The Trojans defense did not allow a point in the fourth quarter. Both Savannah Gonzalez and Isabella Hallal led the team in scoring with 11 points. Morgan Volpe finished with eight points. Cheryllana Cunningham tallied seven points and each of Yana Smaltz and Addison Fritzginer recorded six points. Carly Spang contributed five points and Arielle Brown added four points.
In the win over the Spartans, Parkland had strong first and fourth quarters, as the defense allowed just four total points and the offense recorded its highest scoring output of 21 points in the opening frame.
Hallal led the way with 10 points. Brown netted nine points. Each of Cunningham, Smaltz and Aneri McGalla had six points.
Parkland, which is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, has a busy stretch before Christmas as it will play four games still. The Trojans were at Northampton this past Tuesday and welcome Central Catholic Thursday night. They are at Emmaus on Saturday afternoon and then are at Red Lion in a nonconference game next Tuesday.
