PHS girls basketball wins first three games

The Parkland High School girls basketball team started the 2025-26 season with three straight wins.

The Trojans first defeated Allen 45-13 last Monday, Dec. 1, and followed that with a 57-28 victory over Freedom this past Friday. On Tuesday, Parkland went on the road for the first time and took down Whitehall 59-29.

In the win against the Canaries, the Trojans jumped in front 13-3 in the first quarter and held the Canaries to just two points in the second quarter to go on top 24-5 at halftime. Cheryllana Cunningham led all scorers with 11 points. Isabella Hallal tallied seven points and Aneri McGalla finished with five. Carly Spang, Arielle Brown and Yana Smaltz all had four points.

In the victory over the Patriots, the defense shined bright early just as it did in the opener as the Trojans did not allow a single point in the opening quarter and found themselves ahead 34-10 at the intermission.

It was more of the same the rest of the way. Cunningham recorded a game-high 14 points, including two 3-pointers. Both Hallal and McGalla contributed eight points and Spang added seven.

In the game with the Zephyrs, it was the Parkland offense that stepped up, especially early, outscoring Whitehall 27-10 in the first quarter, as they led 34-15 at halftime. The Trojans gave up just six points in the third and headed to the fourth quarter with a sizable 49-21 advantage.

Both Hallal and Savannah Gonzalez finished with a team-best nine points, while Morgan Volpe tallied eight points. Brooke Ackerman netted seven points and Addison Fritzinger totaled six points.

Parkland has back-to-back conference road matchups this week as it was at Whitehall on Tuesday night and then travels north to take on Pocono Mountain West on Friday night.

The Trojans are then back at home for a nonconference game with Wyomissing Saturday afternoon.
