K-Kids hand Trojans loss in season opener

The Parkland wrestling team opened its season with a tough test against Northampton last week, an assessment of how the Trojans ultimately stack up against the top teams in the East Penn Conference and District 11 Class 3A ranks.

Despite a hard-fought showing, two forfeit losses were a deciding factor in Parkland’s 34-24 defeat against the Konkrete Kids last Wednesday.

The Trojans won six of the contested 11 bouts but bonus points helped Northampton earn the win.

Jorge Moya was the lone Trojan who won via fall against Northampton, defeating Logan Rusnock in 2:44 at 189 pounds. Chase Kruk won by disqualification over Dallas Henderson at 127 pounds to earn six more teams points for the Trojans, but it wasn’t enough.

Northampton was able to secure five straight victories in the middle weight classes—from 139 pounds to 172 pounds—to turn an 18-6 deficit into a 30-18 advantage.

The Trojans opened the match by winning four of the first five contests. Luis Moya picked up a 3-0 victory over Benjamin Schoeneberger at 107 pounds, and then Braden Todora won by technical fall, 17-2, over Cade Strauss in 4:24.

Two matches later, Kruk picked up his disqualification win to put the Trojans in front, 14-6. Matthew Velez then won via a major decision at 133 pounds, taking down Davi Glykas, 17-6.

Myles Lysek would close out the Trojans’ scoring on the night with a 7-2 decision win over Brandon McEntire.

The Trojans faced Dieruff on Wednesday and will travel to Easton on Thursday night, followed by hosting Blue Mountain on Monday night.
