Turkey Day dinner
Sheckler Elementary School students and family members gathered Nov. 20 for the annual schoolwide Turkey Day dinner. This event traditionally takes place on the Thursday before Thanksgiving and includes all students at Sheckler Elementary.
Sheckler is a kindergarten through fourth-grade elementary school. Each grade was called at a specific time for the feast.
Family members joined the students in the gymnasium and proceeded into the cafeteria for their meal. Both students and family members shared a meal — but more importantly, they shared time together during this busy season.
Parents and family members brought pantry items to be donated to a local food bank. As guests entered the gym, eager students from the Life Skills class collected their donated items. These students took great pride in sorting and boxing the varied food items.
Another Sheckler tradition is the Giving Tree. During the holiday season, the Giving Tree is an opportunity to spread holiday cheer to those in need. Tags are available for students to purchase an item, bag it, tag it and return it to be distributed during the holiday. The Giving Tree also welcomes gift cards that will be gifted during the holidays.
